You can help, Please give
Let's work together to ensure our babies will have made a difference not just in our hearts, but in the lives of countless others.
Our hope is that donations made through Walk to Remember will create a lasting legacy that can help thousands of other grieving parents over the years to come.
We encourage you to invite your family, friends, and coworkers to sponsor you for Walk to Remember. Or better yet, gather a team. If you gather a team of 10 people, and each of you raises $100, that’s already $1,000! Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference in the life of a bereaved family.
Good luck and thank you for supporting the bereavement program at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women!
How are Donations Used?
Since Walk to Remember is administered and supported by volunteers, every tax-deductible dollar you give the new Lois Hole Hospital for Women can be used to fund these important programs and resources that help grieving families:
- The Walk To Remember Quiet Room in the hospital is a private room where a newly bereaved family can spend time with their little one, hold a naming ceremony, sing a lullaby, or just be together as a family. Walk to Remember was able to secure this space by pledging $50,000 over five years, so please help us keep the door open and equipped with resources. Each dollar donated to the Quiet Room project is matched with a dollar that is directed towards the other programs listed below:
- Quiet Room Resources that include a rocking chair, bassinette, music (lullabies and nature sounds), an endless supply of soft Kleenex, and access to a healing library filled with the best baby loss books available.
- Customized memorial packages that contain special keepsakes, a Certificate of Life, clay or ink hand and footprints, information for healing, and gentle suggestions from other parents for making memories with your baby while still in the hospital.
- Comfort care packages created especially for parents complete with healing tea, a journal, and a book about baby loss.
- Development and design of Care Cards with medical staff to ensure sensitive standardized care is given to families at the time of their loss.
- Distribution of grief-related materials to help parents and families understand the grief that can follow the loss of a baby.
- Support of the Hospital Burial Program, which ensures that no matter how early in the pregnancy a baby is lost, parents have the option of having their baby buried in a common burial ground.
- Assistance with the Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health Pregnancy and Infant Loss May Memorial.
- Non-receipted donations may assist ParentCare, a support group in Edmonton made up of Parents Helping Parents who have suffered the loss of a baby at any stage. For more information, phone 780-989-5040 or visit www.parent-care.ca.
